# Pause or end a sync

Both are available any time directly in the dashboard on the sync in question. The difference lies in what happens to the blocker events.

## Pausing — blockers stay

- Sync stops; the existing blockers in the target **remain**. Handy when you don't need the sync for a while.
- On **resume**, Kalender Sync fully reconciles the state — everything that changed during the pause is carried over.
- For a two-way sync ([sync your own calendars](https://docs.kalender-sync.de/en/sharings/self-sync/)), **both directions** are always paused and resumed together.
- Before pausing, a short dialog asks for the reason — it helps us improve the product.

Syncs can also be paused without your doing: at the **end of the trial** or after a **cancellation**, when they exceed the Free plan's limit. After a **cancellation** the copied entries stay in place; at the **end of the trial** the copies of your own-calendar syncs are **removed** after 14 days (your original events are untouched). In both cases an upgrade **restores** everything automatically from your original calendars. The plan limit also applies to manual resuming: on Free you can't keep two syncs effectively active by pausing them alternately.

## Ending — blockers are cleaned up

- The sync ends **permanently**; all blockers created by Kalender Sync in the target are **removed automatically**. Your original events remain untouched, of course.
- The cleanup runs in the background: until the blockers have disappeared from all calendars, it can take **a few minutes up to hours** — depending on the number of events and the calendar provider's pace.
- For sharings (shared syncs), **either side** can end it: you as the sender from the dashboard, the receiving side under "Shared with me" → **"End"**.
- Ending can't be undone — but a new sync is set up in under a minute. (To change settings like visibility you don't need to end a sync — use the three-dot menu → **"Edit"** → [Edit a sharing](https://docs.kalender-sync.de/en/sync/freigabe-bearbeiten/).)
