# Syncs via the assistant

Since server version 1.6.0 your AI assistant can also work with your **syncs**. The sync tools cost **no credits**.

## What the assistant can do

- **List your syncs:** "Which syncs do I have?" The assistant sees which calendar copies into which, whether the sync is running and, if not, why.
- **Explain why a sync has stopped:** "Why aren't my work appointments coming through anymore?" The answer names a documented reason (for example, an account has to be reconnected) and the next step with a link into the app.
- **Set up a new sync:** "Mirror my work calendar into my private calendar as 'busy'." The assistant checks first whether that is possible and only creates the sync after you have confirmed source, target and detail level in the chat.
- **Both directions:** "Keep work and private in sync both ways, as 'busy' only." A two-way sync is one sync; each direction has its own detail level.
- **Pause and resume:** "Pause the sync." Resuming works the same way; there is no automatic resume at a set time. Pausing deletes nothing. The copies stay in the target calendar; syncing simply stops.
- **Delete, with confirmation:** "Delete the sync from work to private." The assistant first tells you which sync it is and how many copies will be removed, and only deletes once you agree. The original events stay untouched; the copies in the target calendar disappear. This cannot be undone.

## What deliberately stays in the app

- **Changing rules** (detail level, titles, all-day behaviour) and **reversing the direction**.
- **Syncs with other people** (invitations).
- **Creating new target calendars.**

The assistant links straight to the right page in the app for these.

## The safety boundaries

- **Only the calendars you shared.** The source must be shared with the assistant. The target needs its own tick: **"Manage syncs into this calendar"** in the calendar dialog when connecting (or "May manage syncs into this calendar" under AI assistant → edit access). It requires "create events" and is preselected for new connections. Otherwise a sync could copy a locked calendar into a shared one, and the assistant could read it after all.
- **Never more detail than the assistant may see.** If the assistant only sees "busy" for the source, it can only create a "busy" sync from it.
- **No loops.** The assistant does not create a sync that would come back to its source through other syncs, nor a second direction next to an existing one-way sync. For both directions it uses a two-way sync.
- **Two-way only with both ticks.** In a two-way sync each calendar is also a target; both must be shared and have the sync tick.
- **Deleting only after your confirmation.** The confirmation is valid for 10 minutes and only for exactly the sync the assistant showed you. Without it nothing is deleted.
- **Your plan applies here too.** Syncs between your own calendars are available from Basic; how many depends on your plan.
- **Pausing only for released targets.** It can only pause or resume syncs whose target calendar has the sync tick. A sync that was stopped because of the plan or a missing calendar is not resumed by the assistant.
- **A sync keeps running.** A sync created this way is a normal sync in your account. It keeps running even if you revoke the assistant's access later. You can end it in the app at any time.

## The sync tools are missing?

Existing connections only know the new tools once the client reloads its tool list:

- **Claude:** open the three-dot menu on the connector and choose **Refresh**.
- **Other clients:** reload the connection, or disconnect and connect again. A new token is not needed.

The assistant can only **create** and **pause** syncs if at least one calendar has the sync tick. If you set it later, reload the tool list (see above).

## Logging

Every call is in the access log: which tool, which calendars, result. Syncs created by the assistant are marked as such internally.

Technical details on all parameters are in the [tool reference](https://docs.kalender-sync.de/en/ki-assistent/tool-referenz/#sync-tools).
