# Connect Posteo

<PlanNote plan="basic" />

You connect Posteo over **CalDAV** with your Posteo address and an **app password**. You create it in two minutes in your Posteo settings — after that everything runs automatically, and sync picks up changes **every 5 minutes**.

:::tip[Why an app password?]
Posteo recommends a separate **app password** for calendar apps. Your regular Posteo password works too, but an app password only works for external apps, can be deleted on its own at any time, and stays valid when you change your main password.
:::

## 1. Create an app password

1. Sign in at [posteo.de](https://posteo.de/) and open **Settings** → **My account** → **Password and security**.
2. In the **App passwords (device passwords)** section, click **Create app password**.
3. Add a description (e.g. "Kalender Sync") and keep the suggested password.
4. Confirm with your Posteo password and **copy the app password** — Posteo only shows it once, for security reasons.

## 2. Connect in Kalender Sync

1. In the dashboard, go to **"Connect calendar"** → **"Posteo"** → **"Continue"**.
2. Enter your **full Posteo address** (e.g. `name@posteo.de`).
3. Paste the **app password** (or your regular Posteo password) and click **"Test & Connect"** — Kalender Sync checks the connection right away.

You don't need to enter a server address — Kalender Sync knows it and finds your calendars automatically.

## If you see "Sign-in failed"

- Did you enter the **complete address**, including `@posteo.de` (or your Posteo alias domain)?
- Paste the app password fresh instead of typing it — it is at least 16 characters long.
- Is Posteo's **additional mailbox protection** switched on? According to Posteo it is meant for webmail-only use and blocks external apps. Turn it off if you want to use Kalender Sync.
- Deleted the password in the meantime, or reset it via "forgotten password"? A reset deletes all app passwords — just create a new one (step 1).

Still stuck? Write to us at [support@kalender-sync.de](mailto:support@kalender-sync.de) — the Posteo connection is new, so every report helps.

## End access

In Kalender Sync: [Remove a calendar](https://docs.kalender-sync.de/en/connect-calendar/disconnect/). You can also delete the app password at any time under **Password and security** → **App passwords** — that ends access immediately.
