# missing_api_key

**No API key in the request.**

| | |
|---|---|
| HTTP status | `401` |
| `code` | `missing_api_key` |
| Retry? | No, fix the request first |

## What it means

The request has no `Authorization: Bearer …` header, or the header is not of the form `Bearer <key>`. An unknown path under `/v1` also answers with this error instead of `404` when no key is sent, so the API does not reveal which paths exist.

## How to fix it

Send the key as `Authorization: Bearer ks_live_…` or `ks_test_…`. Check that no proxy or HTTP client strips the header. You create keys under **Settings › Developer / API**.

  "code": "missing_api_key",
  "detail": "Send the API key as \"Authorization: Bearer <key>\".",
  "request_id": "req_…"
}
